How to whitelist or blacklist IPs

ClickPatrol blocks fraudulent IPs automatically, but you can also manage IPs by hand. The Whitelist IPs tab holds addresses that must never be blocked; the Blacklist IPs tab holds addresses you want blocked no matter what. Both live under Configuration and work the same way: type an IP, click Submit, manage the list in a table.

Whitelist: IPs that must never be blocked#

Typical whitelist entries: your own office IP, your agency, testers, and known customers who click your ads more often than a stranger would. Whitelisting is also the way to release a single IP that was blocked, without clearing your whole block list.

1. Click Configuration in the sidebar of your ClickPatrol dashboard.
2. Open the Whitelist IPs tab ("Add IPs to whitelist").
3. Type the address in the Enter IP here field on the left and click Submit.

You can whitelist a range with a wildcard. An entry like 139.64.166.* covers every address that starts with 139.64.166.

The right side of the page shows the Whitelisted IP's table: search a specific entry with Search IP, download the list with Export CSV, and remove an entry with the trash icon in the ACTION column. The table is paginated, with Per page: 10 as the default.

Blacklist: IPs that must always be blocked#

Use the blacklist for addresses you never want on your ads, whatever their clicks look like: a known competitor, a bot network you spotted yourself, or an IP a client asked you to ban.

1. Click Configuration in the sidebar.
2. Open the Blacklist IPs tab ("Block IPs manually").
3. Type the address in the field on the left and click Submit.

As the dashboard explains, manually blacklisted IPs get a higher blocking priority, and they remain blocked until you whitelist them. The table on the right works like the whitelist table, with Search IP and Export CSV; before your first entry it shows "No results found".

Which list wins?#

The two lists are your manual overrides on top of ClickPatrol's automatic blocking:

• Whitelist: the IP is never blocked, and whitelisting is how you unblock an IP again, including a blacklisted one.
• Blacklist: the IP stays blocked until you whitelist it.

Good to know#

• Whitelist your own IP before you test your ads, so your test clicks never get your own address blocked.
• Automatic blocking is driven by your Click Threshold Rules and the traffic protection settings; the whitelist and blacklist sit on top of that.
