Consent when connecting your Google Ads account to ClickPatrol

In Google Ads Troubleshooting · Updated (1 days ago)

When connecting your Google Ads account to ClickPatrol, Google will display a permission consent screen. This article explains what the consent page is, what you are authorizing, and what happens next.

The Google consent page is a standard Google security screen that appears whenever a third-party application requests access to your Google account data. It ensures you are aware of exactly what access you are granting before you approve.

The page will be titled:

"ClickPatrol.com - Ads Connect wants access to your Google Account"

Your connected Google account email address will be displayed on the left side of the screen.

What permission is being requested?#

ClickPatrol requests one specific permission:

  • See, edit, create, and delete your Google Ads accounts and data

This permission is required for ClickPatrol to function. By ticking the consent checkbox, you allow ClickPatrol to:

  • Track clicks across your active campaigns
  • Update your tracking templates to route traffic through ClickPatrol's detection system
  • Exclude invalid IP addresses from your Google Ads campaigns

The checkbox must be selected to proceed.

How to approve the connection#

  1. Review the requested permission on the right-hand side of the consent screen.
  2. If you would like to review ClickPatrol's data handling practices before continuing, click the privacy policy or Terms of Service links shown on the page.
  3. Click Continue to grant access and proceed.
Note: Clicking Cancel will abort the connection. ClickPatrol will not receive any access to your account.

What happens after you click Continue?#

After approving on the consent page, Google redirects you back to the ClickPatrol dashboard to the Connect your Google Ads account screen.

From here:

  1. A success notification will confirm: "Ads account connected successfully."
  2. You will be asked to select the Google Ads account you want to connect to ClickPatrol. Use the dropdown to choose your account.
  3. If you are connecting a Manager Account (MCC), select the MCC first. A second dropdown will appear for you to select the specific sub-account you want to protect.
  4. Click Connect Google Ads account to complete the setup.
