Reddit ads Integration

Reddit Ads

With the Reddit Ads integration, you can monitor your Reddit ad traffic using ClickPatrol. The setup combines Google Tag Manager, the ClickPatrol Tag, and Reddit UTM parameters to identify legitimate and suspicious traffic.

How it works#

When a visitor arrives from a Reddit ad, the UTM parameters in your ad URL tell ClickPatrol the traffic came from Reddit. The ClickPatrol Tag then classifies the visit and pushes a ClickPatrol_Legitimate or ClickPatrol_Suspicious event into Google Tag Manager (GTM).

These events help you monitor traffic quality and identify legitimate visitors for audience creation.

Step 1: Install the ClickPatrol Tag in Google Tag Manager#

Before you start, make sure Google Tag Manager is installed on your website and the ClickPatrol Tag is firing correctly.

If you have not completed this setup, follow the Google Tag Manager installation guide.

Step 2: Copy your UTM template#

  1. Log in to your ClickPatrol dashboard.
  2. Go to Integration in the sidebar.
  3. Select the Reddit tab.
  4. Copy the UTM template shown under UTM Parameters.
&utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_id={{campaign.id}}&source=r

Important: Unlike some advertising platforms, Reddit does not automatically replace the placeholders in this template. You must manually fill in the placeholders with your actual campaign and ad details.

Replace the following placeholders:

  • {{campaign.name}}: Your Reddit campaign name.
  • {{campaign.id}}: Your Reddit campaign ID.

Example of a completed UTM template#

After replacing the placeholders, your completed template should look like this:

&utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign=AutumnPromo2026&utm_id=582941&source=r

These are example values. Replace them with your own Reddit campaign and ad details.

Note: The template starts with & because it is designed to follow existing URL parameters. If your destination URL has no parameters, start with ? instead.

Step 3: Add the UTM parameters to your Reddit ads#

  1. Open Reddit Ads Manager.
  2. Go to the campaign you want to edit.
  3. Open the ad group and select the ad you want to update.
  4. Scroll down to the Destination URL section.
  5. Append your completed UTM template to the destination URL.
  6. Click Save and publish your changes.

For example, your completed destination URL might look like this:

https://www.example.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign=AutumnPromo2026&utm_id=582941&source=r

Once your changes are published, ClickPatrol will start identifying Reddit traffic that arrives through the updated URL.

Verify your setup#

After publishing, confirm the integration is working:

  1. Log in to your ClickPatrol dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Reports and check for incoming Reddit traffic.
  3. Confirm that the ClickPatrol Tag is firing correctly in Google Tag Manager.
  4. Check that all placeholders have been replaced with the correct values.

If no traffic appears after 24 hours, confirm that the UTM parameters have been added correctly and that the ClickPatrol Tag is firing in GTM.

Note: ClickPatrol only identifies Reddit traffic that arrives through URLs containing the required tracking parameters. Ads without these parameters will not be tracked as Reddit traffic.
