Shopify

The official ClickPatrol Shopify app is a free loader. You paste Your Unique ID. After you turn on the theme embed, the Online Store loads the same measurement script as the Google Tag Manager tag.

Account, billing, and connecting Google Ads or Meta stay in the ClickPatrol dashboard. This app does not take payment and does not replace a GTM container.

Before you start#

You need a ClickPatrol account. Plans and a 7-day trial are on clickpatrol.com/pricing. The Unique ID belongs to the website, not to an ad account.

Use this app or the official GTM tag, not both.

Install#

1. Install ClickPatrol from the Shopify App Store. Until the listing is live, use a custom install link from ClickPatrol.
2. In dashboard.clickpatrol.com open Integration, then Google Tag Manager, and copy Your Unique ID.
3. Paste the UID in the app and save.
4. Open Theme editor, App embeds. Turn Click fraud tag on and save. Shopify keeps embeds off until you do this. The script does not load before that save.
5. Open a public Online Store page and add ?source=f to force a test classification.
6. Connect Google Ads or Meta in the ClickPatrol dashboard. The Shopify app does not connect ad accounts.

What the script sends#

The loader calls https://trck-002.clckptrl.com/ with your UID, the page query, the page URL, a visitor id, and a session id. Cookies are cp_visitor_id (400 days) and cp_session_id (24 hours). That matches the official GTM tag. Event details stay in the Google Tag Manager article.

Consent#

On Shopify, the loader waits for Customer Privacy marketing and analytics permission before it sets cookies or calls the tracker. If the visitor later changes consent, the loader runs again.

Optional extras#

GCLID recovery and cookie lifetime extras match the GTM tag. They stay off until you enable them under Settings in the app.

What this version does not do#

Theme embeds do not run on checkout or thank-you pages. Hydrogen and headless stores are out of scope. There is no Shopify Billing checkout in the app.
