No Traffic Visible in ClickPatrol Dashboard
Not seeing data in your ClickPatrol dashboard? If you have active Google Ads campaigns but no traffic is appearing in ClickPatrol, the most common culprit is a misconfigured Tracking Template.
Google Ads tracking is sensitive. If a setting at a lower level (like an Ad) overrides your Account settings, or if parameters are placed in the wrong field, tracking will fail. Follow this step-by-step guide to diagnose and fix the issue.
Step 1: Check the Account-Level Template#
First, ensure the ClickPatrol tracker is installed globally.
- Sign in to Google Ads.
- Go to Account Settings.
- Locate the Tracking template field.
- It should contain your unique ClickPatrol URL (containing clckptrl.com).
If it is missing: Log in to your ClickPatrol dashboard, go to Integration > Tracker, copy your template, and paste it into the Google Ads Account Settings. Click in Google Ads Test to verify it works.
Step 2: Check for Hierarchy Overrides#
Google Ads follows a strict hierarchy. A tracking template set at a specific level will override the Account level.
The Hierarchy (Bottom-Up):
- Ad Level (Highest priority – overrides everything else)
- Ad Group Level
- Campaign Level
- Account Level (Lowest priority)
If you have an old tracking template defined at the Ad or Campaign level, ClickPatrol (set at the Account level) will be ignored. You must remove lower-level templates or merge them (see Step 5).
Tip: We offer a Tracking Template Checker Script to help you scan your entire account for these hidden overrides.
Step 3: The UTM Trap (Final URL Suffix)#
A common mistake is placing UTM parameters (e.g., utm_source, utm_campaign) inside the Tracking Template. This breaks the setup.
- Wrong: Placing ?utm_source=google... inside the Tracking Template.
- Correct: Placing UTMs inside the Final URL Suffix field.
If you see {lp}?utm= in your tracking template, move those parameters to the Final URL Suffix field immediately. This ensures your analytics data remains accurate without breaking ClickPatrol’s detection.

Step 4: Third-Party Tool Conflicts#
Are you using tools like HubSpot, TripleWhale, or Hyros?
These platforms often have "Auto-tagging" features that forcibly overwrite your Google Ads tracking templates.
- The Fix: Disable automatic tracking updates in the third-party tool settings.
- The Check: Re-apply the ClickPatrol template, then check back one hour later. If the template has changed back, a third-party tool is still active.
Step 5: Merging Multiple Trackers#
If you must use another tracking solution alongside ClickPatrol (at the campaign or ad level), you cannot simply paste one over the other. They must be merged.
- Go to the ClickPatrol Tracking Template Tool.
- Paste your ClickPatrol template in Step 1.
- Paste your existing/third-party template in Step 2.
- Click Submit to generate a combined link.
- Use this new merged link in Google Ads tracking template.
Step 6: Final Sanity Checks#
If the technical setup looks correct but you still see no data:
- Check Date Ranges: Ensure the date range in ClickPatrol matches the dates you are checking in Google Ads.
- Verify Google Ads Traffic: Confirm that your campaigns actually received clicks during that time frame.
- System Time: Incorrect date/time settings on your local computer can sometimes prevent data from syncing or displaying correctly in the browser.
